Community Connections

  • Park Program (4YO Program)

Each week, our two 4YO groups come together for a walk to Robert Menzies Reserve, located at the end of Mayfield Avenue, to take part in our park program. This nature-based experience provides young children with meaningful opportunities to explore, play, and learn in an outdoor setting. Time spent in nature supports physical development, stimulates curiosity and creativity, and fosters important social skills. It also helps build resilience and promotes a sense of calm and well-being, making the park program a valuable and enriching part of their early learning journey.

  • Neon Tiger (3YO and 4YO Program)

All children at Little St. Margaret’s contribute their artwork to Neon Tiger Café, where it is proudly displayed for the local community to enjoy. This wonderful partnership not only celebrates the creativity of our young learners but also strengthens our connection with the wider community. It gives children a sense of pride and belonging as they see their work appreciated in a public space and fosters meaningful relationships between our centre and local businesses. Collaborations like this help children understand the value of community, contribution, and shared experiences.

  • Stonnington Library (4YO Program)

Our 4YO children visit the Stonnington Library for regular reading sessions, traveling by tram—a fun and exciting part of the experience! These outings support early literacy, build confidence using public transport, and help children feel connected to their community. They also strengthen our partnership with local services and promote a shared love of learning.

  • Maternal Health Nurse

Maintaining a strong connection with the Maternal and Child Health Nurse from Stonnington Council is vital for supporting the overall wellbeing and development of children at Little St. Margaret’s Kindergarten. Age appropriate visit  by a nurse  provides families with convenient access to professional health guidance, developmental screenings, and early intervention support, all within the familiar environment of the kindergarten. This partnership helps to identify any developmental concerns early, ensuring timely referrals and support for children and families. It also reinforces the kindergarten’s commitment to holistic care, promoting physical, emotional, and developmental health as a foundation for successful learning and growth.

  • Local Schools

Establishing and maintaining strong connections with local primary schools is essential for Little St. Margaret’s Kindergarten, as it supports a smooth and confident transition for children as they move from kindergarten to formal schooling. These relationships foster alignment in teaching approaches, expectations, and developmental goals, helping to ensure that children are well-prepared academically, socially, and emotionally for their next stage of learning. Regular communication and collaboration with local schools also allow educators to share relevant information and strategies, further enhancing continuity of care and learning. Additionally, these connections strengthen community ties and create a sense of belonging and familiarity for families, supporting a positive start to each child’s educational journey.

  • Pre-school Field Officer

A strong connection with a Pre-school Field Officer (PSFO) from the Stonnington Council is highly beneficial for Little St. Margaret’s Kindergarten, as it supports the inclusion and participation of all children, particularly those who may have additional needs. The PSFO works in partnership with educators to identify and respond to developmental concerns, providing practical strategies, resources, and professional advice to support children’s learning and wellbeing. This collaboration promotes early intervention and inclusive practices, ensuring that every child has access to a positive and equitable early learning experience. By working closely with a PSFO, the kindergarten strengthens its capacity to create an environment where all children can thrive and feel supported in their individual learning journey.
