Little St Margaret’s (LSM) has been recognised as one of Australia’s best kindergartens by the Australian Government’s National Quality Assessment & Rating Report, conducted in 2016. LSM received the rating of “Exceeding National Quality Standards” across all key areas, particularly in the education program.

Established in 1929, it still operates as one of Victoria’s only independent, non-denominational not-for-profit kindergarten's. We offer a specialised early learning curriculum in a family friendly environment with small class sizes.

LSM offers 3 and 4 year-old kindergarten programs with before and after school extended care.

We believe children need to experience challenges that strengthen their confidence in themselves as learners and in their abilities. These experiences provide a sense of success and develop a willingness and excitement for new experiences and a thirst for learning.

The educational philosophy of Little St Margaret's is based on a number of firm beliefs:

DEVELOPMENT: Children pass through sequential stages of development at different rates and, thus, require programs that reflect and cater for each individual's needs and strengths.
DOING: Children learn best by doing – active thinking, participation and experimenting to discover first hand about the world we live in.
PLAY: Play provides the foundation for learning and enables staff to achieve the key goals of an early childhood curriculum. Play is the work of early childhood.
